TAKE YOGA OFF THE MAT, INTO LIFE As I am learning TAKE YOGA OFF THE MAT, INTO LIFE
As I am learning the art of Yoga in Rishikesh, the capital Yoga of the world, I realized that Yoga is so much more asanas - postures, or a gymnastic practice as it is often seen in social media.
Yoga = harmony of mind + body + spirit
Besides asanas (posture), a yogi also focus on pranayama (control of breath) and meditation. Including the yamas and niyamas in daily life is the way to transform yoga into a spiritual path.
The yamas are the practice of non-violence, truthfulness, non-indulgence, non-stealing, and non possessiveness.
The niyamas are a set of five observances—purity, contentment, self-discipline, self-study, and surrender to the Divine.
By practicing these ten principles along with asana and pranayama, and meditation, you begin to transform yourself inside out and learn to take yoga off the mat and into life with you.

You are the redeemer of all redeemers. From you, this creation is born." An insipring Sunday afternoon Kundalini class with Gurmukh. Gurmukh's name, which means "one who takes thousands across the world ocean," was given to her by Yogi Bhajan, the Sikh master who introduced Kundalini Yoga to America. More than an exercise, Kundalini Yoga is a comprehensive yogic system, incorporating a vegetarian lifestyle, healing techniques, and seva (selfless service to others).
Do you notice that today is 11/11? According to nu Do you notice that today is 11/11? According to numerology, the number 11 is a “master number” which signifies intuition, insight, and enlightenment. On this powerful day, I spent time meditating by the bank of the holy Ganga River. Reflecting on all the ups and downs in the past two months in India, I felt a bit lost and overwhelmed, yet also super thankful to the opportunity to be here with purpose and mindfulness. Once my guru told me, "if everything happened the way you want, it is good. If everything did not happen the way you want, it is even better." I trust that all the mistakes I made along the journey are there for a reason, that I am in the right path at the right time, as long as I stay true to my heart. Now as I am transitioning into the last leg of the Gearing Up journey here in the holy land of Rishikesh, I felt right and ready.
